Department of Ophthalmology


„Our department for eye diseases covers the complete range of sugical ophthalmologic operations and offers you for in- as well as outpatient care and state of the art all examination and treatment methods.
Besides various medical consultations at the University Hospital Bonn we have a close cooperation of all specialists in order to offer you the best possible interdisciplinary treatment.“

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Spectrum:

Anterior Segment Surgery
Cataract surgery with intraocular lense- implantation; glaucoma
(filtrating-, laser-, minimal invasive surgery including trabectome, all variants of lid surgery)

Vitreous, Retinal and Macular Surgery
Diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, epiretinal membrane,
vitreomacular adhesion, vitreomacular traction, retinal detachment, ocular trauma
including complex injuries, retinal vascular diseases, submacular hemorrhages.

Laser Surgery
Retinal vascular diseases including branch retinal vein occlusion and central retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP),
Photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Intravitreal Pharmacological Therapy
Intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents including Lucentis, Eylea, Avastin; intravitreal Jetrea-injections for small macular holes and symptomatic vitreomacular adhesions; intravitreal ozurdex and iluvien injections.
Orthoptics and Pediatric Ophthalmology
Strabismus surgery, motility disorder of the eye, nystagmus, neuroophthalmologic diseases, blepharospasm (Botulinumtoxin) therapy.

Low Vision Aids Center
Institute for eye prosthetics, optical and electronic devices, mobility training.

State of the Art Diagnostics
Imaging including srectral domain optical coherence tomorgaphy (SD-OCT), confocal scanning laser ophtalmoscopy (cSLO), fundus autoflourescence, molecular imaging, adaptive optics, electrophysiology, dark adaptometry, perimetry, microperimetry, wide field SLO- imaging

Clinic for Retinal Degenerations
Including retinitis pigmentosa, macular dystrophies, molecular genetic analyses, refind phenotyping including retinal imaging, in collobaration with the Center for Rare Diseases Bonn (ZSEB)
