Laboratory and quality management
- Processing and storage of biomaterial samples as well as standardized database management according to SOPs of:
- Liquid samples: Whole blood, serum, plasma, Na-citrate, urine, ascites, CSF in 0.5 ml or 1.8 ml aliquots as well as PaxGene blood
- Tissue samples: Tumor tissue and surrounding normal tissue, other tissue on request and by project agreement
- Quality control of biomaterial samples and documentation of interfering variables such as hemolytic, icteric, lipemic, etc.
- Storage temperature: -80°C as standard (-170°C, -150°C, -20°C, RT)
- 24/7 temperature logging of the freezers
- Emergency power supply and existing backup systems
- Participation in proficiency tests and friendly audits of the German Biobank Alliance
On request, project-specific processing different from the standard procedure can be performed as well as other types of biomaterial samples can be stored.
IT and database management
- Documentation and administration of sample-specific data in the biobank database
- Advice and support for researchers regarding software and database queries as well as IT networking within the UKB
- Establishment and validation of project-specific software connections for structural recording for special requirements for biomaterials that cannot be provided by the BBB staff (Note: The initial provision of the software customized to the project is free of charge, further changes requested by the user may be invoiced)
Project management
- Provision of biobank patient informed consent (broad consent) for the (prospective) collection of biomaterials for adults and adolescents/children
- Advice on research projects, specific collections, sample and storage logistics and analyzing methods
- Support regarding ethics and research applications
