Student treatment courses

Dental treatment with quality control

In clinical treatment courses, patients are treated by dental students in their higher semesters (from the 7th semester onwards) under the supervision of assistant dentists and senior physicians. Treatment takes place within the framework of so-called integrated courses and includes a review of the therapeutic intermediate steps of treatment up to the final delivery, thus ensuring dental treatment of the highest professional standard.

In principle, patients of all ages can present themselves with their dental concerns. The range of treatments covered in the course includes fillings, root canal treatments, periodontitis therapy and the provision of dental prostheses (crowns, bridges, dentures).

Treatment takes place within the framework of so-called integrated courses. For a maximum of eight students each, one assistant dentist from the Polyclinic for Periodontology, Conservative Dentistry and Preventive Dentistry and one assistant dentist from the Polyclinic for Dental Prosthetics, Propaedeutics and Materials Science are responsible. They provide interdisciplinary supervision of the students.

The two senior physicians, who also come from the Polyclinic for Periodontology, Dental Conservation and Preventive Dentistry and the Polyclinic for Dental Prosthetics, Propaedeutics and Materials Science, work with the course assistants to plan a sustainable treatment concept and monitor the final delivery as well as important intermediate steps (senior physician's certificate).

Every other intermediate step is presented to the assistants, who advise the students and provide support at any time when difficult tasks arise.

Although this comprehensive monitoring of the work increases the time required for treatment in the student course, it enables individual care for patients and a very high quality of treatment can be achieved.

The first visit

Interested patients can register for an initial examination. After the initial examination and consultation, a decision will be made as to whether the dental issue is suitable for the student course.

If treatment at our clinic is an option for you, please call to arrange an appointment or register Monday to Friday between 8:30 and 10:00 at our main reception on the ground floor, to the left of the main entrance. Please allow sufficient time for your initial registration.

The student courses start at the beginning of each semester (early April and early October). However, depending on the situation, treatment may also be carried out during the semester breaks as part of the state examination.

Facilities

The Centre for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at the University Hospital Bonn has bright rooms with modern treatment units. Innovative techniques and the latest materials are used for therapy, and patients can expect treatment based on the latest scientific findings.

Costs

The UKB offers dental and dental technology services that are not covered by health insurance at a reduced cost in some cases.

Before any treatment is carried out that is not fully covered by health insurance, you will be informed of the costs in writing and given sufficient time to consider.

For prosthetic work, a treatment and cost plan will be drawn up for you after detailed planning and consultation, which must be approved by your health insurance provider. During the planning and consultation, all possible forms of treatment will be discussed (from simple clasp dentures to complex implant restorations) and cost estimates will be prepared for your preferred options so that you know what costs to expect before the treatment and cost plan is drawn up.
