Where scientific quality meets maximum safety—the perfect environment for first-in-human and early-phase clinical trials
The Phase I Unit of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Pharmacology is specialised in innovative early clinical research. Located directly within the hospitals of the most important clinical disciplines, there is direct access to all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as medical expertise from all disciplines of a maximum care hospital. It has a total of 10 beds equipped with continuous monitor monitoring and long-term storage of telemetric 12-channel ECG, pulse oximetry and blood pressure. The unit is suitable for all types of clinical trials that require inpatient monitoring, even over long periods, or outpatient care.
The Institute also hosts the Clinical Study Core Unit of the Study Center Bonn (academic full-service CRO), the central laboratory of the University Hospital, research laboratories for basic research of the Cluster of Excellence ImmunoSensation and the BioBank (for comprehensive collection, storage, provision and processing of biological samples). All this guarantees the involvement of various experts and the specialised infrastructure for early clinical trials.
