Hematology-Oncology Ward

Our ward is full of colour and light with large windows proffering a view of the surrounding landscape. There are 14 rooms. 4 rooms are designed for isolation purposes. On the same level, yet in a separate unit 3 HEPA filtered rooms are available for bone marrow transplant patients.

All rooms offer individual baths, day light lamps and cost free wlan. One adult family member can stay with the child around the clock in the patient room. The common room of our ward is open to patients and their families and offers additional space for personal exchange, play and fun.

Our multi-professional team off ers psychosocial support to children and adolescents treated at our clinic as well as their families during therapy, convalescence and long term follow-up. The pedagogy team supported by the Förderkreis Bonn e.V. visits the ward on a daily basis supervising a variety of creativity projects. Clinic clowns and their humoristic entertainment trigger moments of joy. The close by Family House off ers retreat and recreation as well as accommodation for parents and siblings.

Meals are created by the children’s hospital own cook. During the day snacks are prepared on demand by the kitchen team of our ward according to patients wishes.
A special breakfast is provided once a week by the parent initiative Förderkreis für Krebskranke Kinder und Jugendliche Bonn e.V

Examinations and treatments only take place in the two “pieks rooms”, the patient rooms are quiet rooms. Lessons are held at the bedside as required and participation in the school project is also possible there. Laptops supplement the communication options for patients “all over the world”.

The patients and their families are supported by a psychologist in coping with the burdens associated with the disease.

The families are advised on social and legal issues by a social worker, who helps the parents through the bureaucratic jungle so that existential needs do not get the upper hand in addition to worrying about the child.
