Internal Audit & Compliance

Welcome to the Department of Internal Audit & Compliance!

Efficient and future-oriented corporate management requires sustainable safeguarding of the company's success. By providing its services to UKB, the Department of Internal Audit & Compliance makes a valid contribution to this goal.

In its internal audit function, the Department supports the hospital´s Executive Board and its individual operational units with comprehensive audits and audit-related consulting services. Moreover, the Department assists the Executive Board with unbiased reporting in its controlling, managing, and steering activity. The Department of Internal Audit & Compliance of UKB is a member of the German Institute of Internal Auditors (DIIR). The founding principles of the Department are based on international standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and on its Code of Ethics for Professional Practice.

In their compliance function, the Department and the appointed Compliance Officer are responsible for the implementation and further development of the Compliance Management System of the hospital. Hence, they support the Executive Board in ensuring that UKB´s Corporate Compliance Regulations are being adhered. Such regulations include legal procedures, internal policies, and ethical principles. The Code of Conduct adopted by the Executive Board forms the orientation framework within the Compliance Management System at UKB. It defines the requirements for complying with the law regulations on the one hand, and for acting with integrity on the other.

The Department and the Compliance Officer are also the hospital´s contact for its anti-corruption program. Furthermore, following the German Supply Chain Risk Management Act (“Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichten Gesetz - LkSG”), the Executive Board of UKB has appointed the Department with a monitoring and reporting role on the LkSG´s risk management system (see the Policy Statement of the Executive Board).

The department also assumes an internal reporting function, which extends to the whole UKB group (UKB and its subsidiaries), as defined by the German Whistleblower Act ("Hinweisegeberschutzgesetz") and the EU Whistleblower Directive (EU 2019/1937). In the event of a suspected criminal act, a law violation, or a violation of company´s internal regulations Mr. Andreas Heiden (tel. +49 (0) 228 287-13563), the Head of Department and the designated Compliance Officer, is available for consultations on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.. Other Department employees can be contacted as well. Please report to the Department in cases of human rights´ violations, environmental risks, and German Supply Chain Act infringements. The Department´s Whistleblower Portal can be used for reporting as well.

All the information provided to the Internal Audit & Compliance Department will be taken seriously and treated confidentially and in line with the current Data Protection Policy.
