Pediatric Urology
Pediatric urology deals with diseases and malformations of the urinary and genital tracts in children. Conditions of the upper urinary tract include, for example, ureteropelvic junction obstruction or vesicoureteral reflux, where urine flows back from the bladder into the ureters or kidneys. The urethra may be affected by strictures or malformations (hypospadias, epispadias). Children often suffer from functional problems such as bedwetting (enuresis), urgency symptoms, or recurrent urinary tract infections. Another focus of our clinic is the treatment of kidney stones in children.
Our clinic is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and consultation for young patients in a child-friendly environment, tailored to their individual needs. We place special emphasis on individualized, compassionate, and as gentle a therapy as possible. To ensure the best possible diagnostics and treatment, we work closely with colleagues from pediatric radiology, pediatric anesthesia, and nuclear medicine. Our pediatric urology clinic offers a broad range of conservative and modern surgical procedures.
Da Vinci Surgeries
Performing minimally invasive surgeries is an integral part of our treatment spectrum. The latest Da Vinci® Xi system is installed at the University Hospital Bonn for robot-assisted surgeries. The Da Vinci® Xi system is used for various robot-assisted laparoscopic procedures, such as cystectomy, partial nephrectomy, or radical prostatectomy. The Da Vinci surgery system consists of a console operated by the surgeon. The surgeon’s hand and finger movements are transmitted to the surgical instruments via the console. With a roughly 10x magnified 3D image of the surgical field, millimeter-precise movements can be performed. This allows for optimal recognition and preservation of tissue structures. The surgical instruments are introduced into the body through small skin incisions.
